Our team of data scientists is focused on extracting actionable intelligence from your data sources, incorporating forward-looking solutions into your production processes. We are a data science team at your disposal, versed in the intricacies of machine learning and big data.

The   Founder

Dr. Ian Fellows is a Data Scientist based out of San Diego, California. His active research interests encompass many areas of statistical theory, including the analysis of longitudinal data, big data technologies and social network analysis. His work in artificial intelligence has been featured in a number of popular press outlets. He is the creator of the Deducer project, which makes the statistical programming language R more accessible to non-programmers. In 2011 he won the John M. Chamber's Statistical Software Award for his work in statistical visualization, and is the author of numerous open source projects. In 2009 he founded Fellows Statistics Inc., and since then has been leading teams of data scientists in answering mission critical problems in industry.

Understand

Leading an organization in the 21st century requires vision and evidence based decision-making. Fellows Statistics' team of analysts provide advanced analytic models of business processes to assist you in making optimal decisions, and data-based insights to empower your business to explore new opportunities.

Services

Analysis:

Building predictive mathematical models of your business data aids you in forecasting future events, and adapting your organizations practices to the realities of a changing landscape. Our analysts are fluent in advanced statistical modeling and the computational sophistication necessary to deploy these insights into production big data environments.

Visualization:

A significant aspect of data analysis is the ability to communicate answers in a way that everyone can understand. We leverage our award-winning work in statistical graphics to provide your business with accurate, intuitive and insightful dashboards.

Artificial intelligence:

Artificial intelligence is, at its core, about making optimal decisions in the face of uncertainty, and possibly hostile opponents. We can apply the insights gained from creating world-class AI algorithms to the problems facing your organization.

services

Data Engineering:

A critical component of operationalizing mathematical insight in an organization is the integration of statistical algorithms into traditional or non-traditional data stores. Our experienced team of data engineers have a deep understanding of both SQL based, and NoSQL based systems, as well as distributed computation paradigms.

Storage:

We interact with, design and provide DevOps for distributed storage clusters, with expertise in managing Hadoop, HBase, Cassandra, MongoDB, and others. Additionally, we create and manage complex data pipelines using modern architectures and components (Kafka, Storm, Spark Streaming, etc.). Cluster support can be provided on premise, remote or hosted.

Distributed Computation:

Our data engineers understand how computation is done at scale and how to deploy statistical models into a complex distributed architecture. We work with Hadoop MapReduce, Spark and others to provide fault tolerant scalable computational platforms.

Texas hold'em poker represents a significant challenge from a computational perspective. The minimax algorithms which successfully spawned nearly unbeatable chess players breakdown when applied to poker. In 2007 and 2008, two programs were created that attempted to tackle the game of limit heads-up texas hold'em. Both years, our programs placed second in an international competition.

Data Analysis:

We have experience providing statistical analysis for a wide range of data and study types. Whether your project is a multi-center double blind placebo controlled drug trial, a group randomized hierarchical study, or a simple cross-sectional survey, we have the statistical tools to assist you in understanding your results. Our analysts are fluent in a number of statistical software packages including SPSS, R and S+.

Grant Review:

Many times appeasing the statistical reviewer is the difference between a grant receiving funding or not. We will make sure that your analysis plan is statistically correct, and addresses the hypotheses that you are interested in testing. We will review, discuss and edit your grant to ensure that the methodology, phrasing and terminology of your plan is correct. We have worked with NSF, NIH and NIMH grant applications.

Study Design:

The design of your study determines its ability to answer your research questions, and affects every stage of your research. We will provide insight into your different design options, and how these options will affect the data analysis. We will also perform power analyses to determine sample sizes that are both practical, and give you the best chance to prove your hypotheses.

Visualization:

The impact of your work is determined in part by your ability to communicate your findings to your peers. We create publication quality statistical graphics that present your data in an understandable and intuitive manner.

Instruction:

We are happy to assist in the education of students, and the continuing education of researchers. If you would like to further your understanding of statistics, we provide both short courses in specific statistical topics (e.g. Short course - Mixed Models), and one-on-one training.
